Adoption by Shepherd Care is currently accepting applications for a birthmother counselor in our Hollywood office. Applicants should have a bachelors or masters degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field. Previous adoption experience is helpful but not necessary.
The birthmother counselor assists birthparents as they make their adoption plan. Duties include meeting with expectant parents considering adoption, counseling them through the adoption process, helping them make a hospital plan, and providing post adoption support. Counselors assist birthmothers with obtaining social services, housing, medical care, and other services. Counselors also complete case documentation, legal paperwork, and preparation of adoption consent documents.
Applicant must have a professional yet engaging demeanor, and must have the ability to connect and interact with birthparents from various backgrounds, adoptive parents, and professionals involved in the adoption process. Applicant must have a heart for ministry, be flexible, have the ability to multi-task, be a problem solver, and be able to balance the relational aspect of the position as well as the details of documentation.
